And precisely… not the witch one. That one I guess will go faster than me.

To those of you unfamiliar with the language of racing, the runner or broom car, is the one who goes last, behind the last one in a race.

This weekend I ran my second mountain race, in the city of lovers:
11km, 500m + It was a small race, there were two distances: 22km and 11km. When I arrived I saw little popular among the rows at the start. Strong legs, good apparel and shoes, etc.

The race

I went out from the last to not bother those who go out at a good pace. My first km was at 5:30, which for me is a good pace, but still before finishing the first km behind me were only the broom runners. Well, them and Jorge a first time runner like me. And thank goodness they were there, because not being used to follow the marks, I almost went the other way a few times. My biggest fear would have been fulfilled, getting lost.

I suffered and walked every single climb. It was very hot, so we enjoyed the shadows even more. The landscapes were beautiful, it is incredible that leaving the Plaza del Torico in less than a km we find the mountains.

In the end my expectations of pace and sensations were far from what I would have liked.

Sensations

While I was running I was thinking… running the shortest race and being almost the last is like playing in initiation and losing in the first round…

But although it may seem discouraging, for me it is totally understandable, I’m starting and luckily I have a lot of room for improvement, plus I dedicate the time I can combining trail running with paddle (which are not exactly complementary). And other “little things” like family and work. It’s not an excuse, it’s not a complaint, it’s just life itself.

Attitude

Well, you can be the last in the race but you don’t give up, you fight the game until the end.

And after a bad result: more training, more strength, more positive meters and until the next race!

Technique and physical condition can be improved, but a good attitude is not negotiable. And I want to be a little bit better next time.
